A forklift can do much more than move loads on forks. With the right attachment, it can also handle suspended loads that are difficult or impossible to move with standard fork tines.

This carriage-mounted fixed forklift jib is designed for this type of work. The jib is mounted directly onto the forklift carriage instead of being slipped over the forks, providing a fixed lifting arm for handling suspended loads, machinery, bulk bags and other materials.

The lifting height of this model is approximately 1.8 metres. The actual lifting capacity depends on the forklift being used and its rated capacity at the required load centre.

Because the jib is fixed in length, there is no telescopic section to extend or retract. It is a straightforward solution for customers who regularly perform similar lifting jobs and do not need an adjustable boom.

Unlike a fork-mounted jib, this model is installed directly onto the forklift carriage.

Carriage-mounted jibs are commonly used when a forklift is required to perform repeated lifting work. Mounting the attachment directly to the carriage also allows the forklift to position itself relatively close to the load. Industry suppliers use “carriage-mounted jib” and “fixed-length jib” to describe this type of configuration.

For applications where the same type of load is lifted again and again, a fixed jib can be more straightforward than a telescopic jib. There is no extension section to adjust before every lift.

Designed for lifting bulk bags and suspended loads

One of the practical applications of this fixed forklift jib boom is lifting bulk bags, including large FIBC bags used for construction materials, agricultural products, minerals, chemicals and other bulk materials.

The jib can also be used for moving suspended loads such as equipment, components, machinery parts and other loads that cannot be conveniently placed on the forklift forks.

For example, a forklift equipped with this jib can pick up a bulk bag from the ground and position it onto a truck, platform or other working area. It can also be used when a load needs to be lifted over a low obstacle or positioned at a specific height.

The attachment is especially useful where the customer does not need the extended reach of a telescopic forklift jib.

The jib is designed with a lifting height of approximately 1.8 metres, making it suitable for applications where the load needs to be raised above the normal fork working position.

The actual hook height during operation will depend on the forklift mast, carriage position and the way the jib is mounted. Therefore, when confirming the attachment, it is useful to provide the forklift model and mast specifications.

This is particularly important for customers using different forklift capacities or mast configurations, because the available lifting height and load capacity are not determined by the jib alone.

Lifting capacity depends on the forklift

There is no single universal lifting capacity for this jib.

The allowable load depends on the actual forklift capacity, load centre, mast configuration and lifting height. As with other forklift jibs, moving the load farther away from the mast changes the load moment and can reduce the safe lifting capacity. Manufacturers of carriage-mounted jibs commonly specify capacity according to load centre rather than simply giving one maximum number for every working condition.

For this reason, we do not recommend choosing a jib simply by looking at the forklift's nominal rated capacity.

A simple fixed jib for regular lifting work

The main advantage of a fixed forklift jib is its simplicity.

There is no telescopic boom to extend and no hydraulic system required to change the boom angle. The lifting point remains at a fixed position, which makes the attachment suitable for repetitive lifting jobs where the operating distance is generally the same.

This type of jib is commonly considered for workshops, factories, construction sites, warehouses, agricultural operations and other workplaces where forklifts are already available but occasional crane-type lifting capability is required.

For customers who need different lifting reaches for different loads, a telescopic forklift jib may be more appropriate. But when the working conditions are relatively consistent, a fixed-length jib is a more straightforward option.

Fixed forklift jib for construction and industrial use

The carriage-mounted fixed forklift jib can be used as a practical lifting attachment for construction materials, machinery components, bulk bags and other suspended loads.

It is also an option for 4WD rough terrain forklifts used on construction sites and outdoor projects. A rough terrain forklift fitted with a suitable jib can handle suspended loads in areas where a conventional warehouse forklift is not suitable.
